So why this blog and why now.
We as a family (me, my partner, daughter and son) have always enjoyed going out and exploring new places. We are out nearly every weekend and busy in between. But right now I feel we are on the cusp of something big that is going to start curtailing our adventures. My daughter is seven and has physical and learning disabilities. Up to now we have just about managed to get anywhere we wanted to – she is still very small and we are still able to lift her from her wheelchair, but she is getting bigger and I can’t carry her like I used to. More and more the places we want to go to wont be able to accommodate us like they have done so far.
My daughter is slowly being disabled by her environment, and by the lack of equipment that we need when we’re out and about.
This blog will be about raising awareness and highlighting both good and bad practice by just describing some of our adventures as we travel about.
I also thought it would be fun to set us some challenges to push us as a family. The first of these challenges is to see whether it’s possible, with her disabilities, for my daughter to complete the 50 Things To Do Before You’re 11 and three quarters set up by the National Trust a few years ago. We’ve got four and a bit years to go. One of these challenges will be covered in the next blog.
