What this internship offers:
Our aim for this internship is to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to learn skills and gain demonstrable experience in communications. This is a central role within a small, creative, supportive and hard-working team and will be focused on helping to implement our communications plan for our national awareness day, Undiagnosed Children’s Day on Friday 26 April.
The role offers the chance to work across a range of outputs and subject areas, producing and editing interesting and dynamic content like videos, visuals and copy for our blog, website and social media channels. The Communications Intern will also have the opportunity to contribute ideas on how we can improve and enhance our communications activities, having the opportunity to create communications from ideas to outputs.
Salary: £10.20 per hour
Closing date: Monday 11 Feb 2019
Hours: Full time
Contract: Up to eight weeks from Monday 4 March (or as soon as possible after that)
Education level: Undergraduate degree (or equivalent)
What the internship will involve:
The Communications Intern will have the opportunity to work with members of the SWAN UK and wider Genetic Alliance UK team to support the development of our communications activities for Undiagnosed Children’s Day. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of undiagnosed genetic conditions and raise funds to support the work of SWAN UK.
Our work during this period will be focused on creating engaging visual content to promote the day, recruiting families to share their stories on our website, working with a production company to produce a family story video and ensuring we have an active and engaging social media presence.
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who can support the SWAN UK team in producing high quality content and encourage families affected by undiagnosed genetic conditions, fundraisers and the wider public to get involved in the day.
What we like our interns to have:
- A degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience of communicating in a voluntary or paid capacity.
- A can-do attitude.
- Good research, communication skills and IT literacy.
- An organised approach to work with attention to detail.
- An enthusiasm for working as part of a team as well as using their own initiative.
- Commitment to the aims and objectives of SWAN UK and Genetic Alliance UK.
